Ningxia: desalting waste improvement saline-alkali land

The reporter learned from Ningxia University that up to now, Ningxia has used desulphurization waste to improve saline land more than 64,000 mu, which not only effectively solved soil salinization, but also realized the utilization of industrial waste.
According to Xu Xing, vice president of Ningxia University, as the largest reserved arable land resource reserve in the Yellow River Irrigation District, more than one-third of more than 15 million mu of irrigated farmland in the Yellow River Hetao area has varying degrees of soil salinization, which severely restricts this. Regional comprehensive agricultural production capacity and sustainable development of agriculture. At the same time, the Yellow River Hetao area is also an important energy and chemical industry base in China. The large amount of desulfurization waste generated from coal-fired power plants poses a potential threat to the ecological environment.
In 2007, Ningxia University, Ningxia Academy of Agriculture and Forestry, Tsinghua University, China Agricultural University, and Inner Mongolia Agricultural University jointly applied for a National Science and Technology Support Program “Research and demonstration of key technologies for the improvement of saline-alkali lands and utilization of desulphurization wastes in the Hetao Region of the Yellow River”. The results of the study showed that the coal-desulfurization waste and self-developed special improvers were used as the main raw materials to improve the saline-alkali soil. The improved soil PH value, salt content and alkalinity were significantly reduced, the soil was soft, the voids increased, and the land permeability increased. Soil consolidation has improved significantly.
Xu Xing said that at present, the project has established three different types of saline-alkaline core test demonstration zones in Ningxia Agricultural Reclamation Advance Farm, Huinong District and Hongsipu District, completing a demonstration area of ​​4,410 mu, and radiation promotion of 60,100 mu.
Researchers believe that the use of desulphurization waste to improve saline-alkali land has three advantages: increase the area of ​​cultivated land and increase the overall utilization rate of existing land; planting crops on improved land can promote agricultural efficiency, increase farmers' income, and realize industrial waste. The utilization of resources provides good environmental conditions and basic guarantees for the construction of energy and chemical bases in Hetao area.
