Effect of drying temperature on the germination of granulated coating seeds 1

During the process of seed pellet coating, a layered wrapping technique was adopted. Water, as a special material, plays an important role. On the one hand, as a solvent, it can dissolve trace fertilizers, pesticides, and adhesives. On the other hand, as a wetting agent, the surface of the seed can be wetted, and it is necessary to continuously add water during processing to make other filling materials more easily adhere to the surface of the seed. The amount of water used varies greatly depending on the seed and the magnification of the crop. It is estimated that in the seed granulation coating, the general amount is 0.8 to 1.2 times the seed weight. Therefore, under normal circumstances, the water content of the pelleted coating seeds is very large, generally 40% to 60%, and can not be used and stored normally. It is necessary to perform natural drying or mechanical drying. In the industrial production, the drying machine is used to dry the pelletized seed so that the normal moisture content can be achieved without affecting the seed germination and seedling emergence. In view of this, in order to meet the needs of industrial production, we provide parameters for setting the temperature of the drying machine. We have studied the formulation and technology of the granulation coating and the processing of sugar beet, rapeseed, tobacco and marigold seeds. Drying temperature was experimentally studied to simulate the drying state of drying machinery. Temperature and moisture content of seeds were controlled in the laboratory, and germination tests were conducted. The influence of drying temperature on the germination and emergence of four crops was determined. The suitable drying temperature range and drying time for the four crops provide the necessary process parameters for the selection of seed drying equipment.

1 Materials and Methods

1.1 Beets

Weigh 100g of beet pill granulation coating, which is naturally air-cured and has a water content that meets the standard, add 80mL of water (used at the time of industrial processing) to fully absorb it, and set the oven at 40°C, 50°C, 60°C, and 70°C respectively. In the drying, turning once every 30min, close to dry with a sense of volume for the 1/lO weighing, drying to 100g when the weight is removed, record the drying time. The dried seeds were allowed to dry to room temperature and germination tests were conducted according to QB/GT01-90. The germination rate was determined and repeated at a temperature of 3 times. The natural drying beet pill dressings were used as controls.

1.2 rape

100g rape pellets add water 100mL, other with sugar beets.

1.3 Tobacco

100g tobacco pellets were added with water 120mL and the temperature was set at 50°C, 60°C, 70°C, and 80°C. The method of germination was soil culture, and the others were same as sugar beet.
1.4 Marigold

100g marigold pill type water added 110mL, the temperature set 50 °C, 60 °C, 70 °C, germination method using soil culture method, the other with sugar beet.
